February 23, 1948 – October 10, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
In loving memory of Raymond Jerome Vertefeuille, a man who lived a life filled with love, sensitivity, and humor. Born on February 23, 1948, in the charming town of Montmartre, Saskatchewan, Raymond grew up in a bustling farming family, surrounded by the warmth of his nine older siblings.
On September 2, 1967, Raymond married the love of his life, our now deceased mother, and together they built a beautiful family. Their love brought forth three wonderful children – Kim, Rhonda, and myself, Curtis. Our family was complete, and Raymond embraced his role as a devoted husband and father with unwavering love and commitment.
With the passage of time, the family grew even further as Raymond welcomed the joy of grandchildren into his life. Zoe, Gus, Ginger Marley, and Bella brought boundless happiness to his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Raymond’s dedication to his work was unparalleled. For an impressive period of time, he committed his skills and expertise to the same company, Data Business Forms, starting from the tender age of 16 until his well-deserved retirement. His loyalty and hard work were a testament to his character and unwavering dedication. While Raymond’s professional life was fulfilling, his true passion lay in coaching hockey. For many years in Winnipeg, he served as a coach, not only to our own team but also as a second father figure to countless children in our community. His guidance and support extended beyond the rink, shaping the lives of many young individuals and leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
In 1989, our adventurous family decided to embark on a new chapter and relocated to Vancouver. It was during this time that Raymond discovered his newfound love for golf. With an almost obsessive dedication, he would spend his retired years perfecting his swing and enjoying the tranquility of the golf course.
The decision to settle in Lake Cowichan after retirement proved to be a wise one. Raymond wholeheartedly embraced the community and immersed himself in its activities. He continued to enjoy his beloved golf while actively participating in various community endeavors. His presence and infectious humor brought joy to those around him, leaving a lasting impression on the lives he touched.
Four years ago, our world was forever changed when our dear mother and Raymond’s beloved wife, Geri, passed away. This tragedy took a toll on Raymond’s health, both physically and emotionally. Battling with dementia and other illnesses, his heart was shattered, longing to be reunited with his true love.
Today, we find solace in knowing that Raymond has finally found peace alongside our mother. Together, they watch over us, guiding us with their love from above.
We celebrated Raymond’s remarkable life on October 18th at 10 am at the Lake Cowichan Catholic Church, St. Louis Montfort Parish. We came together, shared memories and stories, and honored the life of a man who brought so much love and laughter into our lives.
In the end, it is not the length of one’s life that matters, but the depth of the love they share.
Raymond’s legacy will forever be etched in our hearts, reminding us to live each day with love, sensitivity, and humor, just as he did. Sands of DuncanObituary
