As of Tuesday evening (July 4), the wildfire near Port Hardy has been classified as extinguished.
According to the BC Wildfire Service’s website, the wildfire that was located near the Glenlion River just outside of Port Hardy, was first reported as being 0.9 hectares in size as of 2:24 p.m. on Monday, June 26.
In an update on June 27 at 10:30 a.m., BCWS noted the wildfire had grown overnight and was now listed at 3.43 hectares in size.
In another update on June 28 at 7 p.m., BCWS noted the wildfire continued to stay at 3.43 hectares in size and was listed as being under control, which means a wildfire that will not spread any further due to suppression efforts.
While the wildfire is officially out, it’s still listed as being under investigation. According to the BCWS, wildfire investigations often take time and can be very complex. Investigations may be carried out by one or more agencies, including the BC Wildfire Service, the Compliance and Enforcement Branch, the RCMP, or other law enforcement agencies, and may be cross jurisdictional.
