With the downtown Victoria cenotaph under construction, residents paid their Remembrance Day respects by pinning poppies and fixing flowers to the area’s surrounding fence.

Passersby stopped to take photos, add their flowers to the growing collection and pause for moments of reflection. Due to the pandemic, many of this year’s Remembrance Day ceremonies were held online and it’s been up to people to individually decide how to mark the day.

Here are some of the different ways Remembering played out yesterday across the Island:

CAMPBELL RIVER: Campbell River Remembrance Day ceremony held under COVID-19 precautions

PARKSVILLE: Scenes from Remembrance Day ceremony in Parksville

PORT ALBERNI: Port Alberni honours veterans in smaller Remembrance Day ceremony

NANAIMO: Nanaimo holds cautious Remembrance Day ceremony at cenotaph

CAPITAL REGION: Canadian Forces offer Greater Victoria a sail past to mark Remembrance Day

LANGFORD: Langford Remembrance Day ceremony is small and heartfelt
