Police are asking for help identifying a suspect who allegedly punched teenagers on an RDN Transit bus, then kicked at the exit doors until the driver let him off.

Nanaimo RCMP issued a press release this week asking for tips about the incident which allegedly happened Aug. 26 at approximately 3 p.m. in north Nanaimo.

RDN Transit reported the incident to police immediately, the release noted.

RCMP were told that the youths, aged 13-16 were seated behind the suspect.

“At one point there was an interaction between the youths and the man. During this interaction, the suspect stood up and began punching the youths repeatedly in the face,” the release noted. “He then walked over to the exit door and kicked it repeatedly until the driver pulled over and let him out.”

The suspect was last seen walking southbound along Uplands Drive.

The youths were not seriously injured but did sustain some minor cuts, bruising and swelling from the punches, say RCMP.

The suspect is described as 35-45 years of age, 5-foot-10, with receding brown hair. He wears glasses and at the time of the incident was wearing a blue tank top, blue shorts, and was carrying a black backpack. Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
