Couple rescued after dinghy capsizes on Nanaimo’s Diver Lake

Nanaimo Fire Rescue firefighters called to incident July 4

A man and his wife had to be rescued from Diver Lake after their dinghy dumped them into the water.

The incident happened Tuesday, July 4, at about 10:30 a.m. The owner of the boat said he and his wife had taken the small boat out on its maiden sailing voyage, but when they raised the sail a gust of wind caught it and caused the boat to capsize.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue was called to the scene and rescued the couple, both of whom were wearing life jackets, and after bringing them to shore, retrieved their boat and loaded it into the couple’s pickup.

The couple were checked over by B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics and aside from being wet and cold, were uninjured.
