PQB crime report: Vandals hit railway crossing control box in Nanoose Bay

Oceanside RCMP also deal with prowlers, online scammers and tree thieves

Oceanside RCMP received 277 complaints the week of Sept. 10 to Sept. 16.

Some of those incidents included:

Sept. 10

• A vehicle was reported vandalized by keying in the 700 block of Memorial Avenue, Qualicum Beach.

• Seven cords of wood were reported stolen in the 1600 block of McKibbon Road, Errington.

Sept. 11

• A pair of sunglasses, steel-toed boots and a first aid kit were reported stolen from two unlocked vehicles in the 600 block of Wedgewood Way, Parksville.

• A pair of binoculars, registration papers and a first aid kit were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 400 block of Willow Street, Parksville.

• A railway crossing control box was reported vandalized causing an estimated repair cost of $12,000 in the area of Northwest Bay Road and Island Highway East, Nanoose Bay.

• Two vehicles were reported vandalized with windows smashed out in the 2600 block of Island Highway West near the roundabout, Qualicum Beach.

• A resident reported being scammed $5,000 responding to a phone call purportedly from a popular magazine advising the resident won millions of dollars.

Sept. 12

• A black-coloured 1997 Yamaha model XVII motorcycle was reported stolen in the 3500 block of Outrigger Road, Nanoose Bay.

• A small bricked courtyard garden with benches was reported vandalized in the 100 block of Second Avenue West, Qualicum Beach.

• Change was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 700 block of Camas Way, Parksville.

• An estimated $5,000 of trees were reported stolen from private property in the area of Hilliers Road South and Alberni Highway, Qualicum Beach.

Sept. 13

• An unsecured tent trailer was reported ransacked with a battery, sleeping bag and groceries missing on Cochrane Road near the Dunsmuir Sub Station, Parksville.

• A nighttime prowler was reported in the 700 block of Camas Way, Parksville.

Sept. 14

• Three security cameras and two security lights were reported stolen from a business by two suspects in the 900 block of Chatsworth Road, Qualicum Beach.

• Two vehicles were reported vandalized on Northdowne Road, Bowser.

• Fuel was reported stolen from a business vehicle in the 1000 block of Allsbrook Road, Parksville.

• A resident reported being scammed out of $6,219 responding to a phone call purportedly from a major bank asking for personal information.

Sept. 15

• A Lowrance fish finder, a Twin Star flare gun and Bushnell binoculars were reported stolen in the 1000 block of Resort Drive, Parksville.

• A resident reported being a victim of an online crypto scam losing $1,700.

• Both B.C. licence plates SM3458 were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of James Street, Parksville.

• A resident reported being a victim of an online scam losing $300 in Amazon gift cards and a money transfer of $5,100.

• A nighttime prowler was reported in the 1000 block of Fair Road, Parksville.
