Lightning storm sparks wildfire near Sooke

Fire still classified as out of control

Monday afternoon’s lightning storm sparked a wildfire near Sooke.

The King Creek fire was discovered shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.

In a 7 a.m. Tuesday update, BC Wildfire Service said the fire is still classified as out of control – meaning it is continuing to spread and not responding to suppression efforts.

In a following update shortly before 9:45 a.m., the wildfire was listed as having grown to 0.1 hectares in size, up from 0.01.

The suspected cause of the fire is listed as lightning.
