Lightning storm sparks wildfire near Sooke

Fire still classified as out of control

Monday afternoon’s lightning storm sparked a wildfire near Sooke.

The King Creek fire was discovered shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.

In a 7 a.m. Tuesday update, BC Wildfire Service said the fire is still classified as out of control – meaning it is continuing to spread and not responding to suppression efforts. However, the fire is listed as 0.01 hectares in size.

The suspected cause of the fire is listed as lightning.
