Construction starts on rental-only condos in Langford through CMHC program

The project will add 10 storeys and 80 homes to the Langford core

A new housing development by the Ovis Group will break ground in Langford on Tuesday, Nov 28.

The groundbreaking at 2826 Jacklin Rd. is for a project that will be purpose-built rentals with an eye on affordability.

The new development, Ovis One, will add 84,000 square feet of rental condos with 10 storeys and 80 homes in the Langford core.

Langford has grown rapidly over the last five years and has become the fastest-growing municipality in B.C., with a population of 46,584.

The project will be completed by 2025, according to the Ovis website and will keep 10 per cent of the homes built as non-market affordable housing.

A University of Victoria campus will only be 700 metres away, with Royal Roads University and Camosun College also nearby. Recreational facilities and parks will also be near the new development.

The development will be the first 100-per-cent concrete rental condo in Langford, and close to the Rapid Bus exchange.

The development is a part of the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Select Program, prioritizing affordability and accessibility.
