Some streets temporarily closed during filming

Much of downtown Duncan was shut down for part of the day on Tuesday, Sept. 29 as Zeta Productions was filming scenes for the television series Super Pupz.

A crew of about 50 technicians, camera crews and other workers, descended on the core of the city and, after receiving approval from the City of Duncan, closed sections of Kenneth and Craig streets for the shooting of the scenes, which also involved up to 12 pups, most of whom were brought in from Los Angeles, who are the stars of the series.

Artificial smoke and lighting effects were used in some of the scenes to simulate a fire, and a fire truck from Victoria was part of the filming of the live-action series as well.

Cowichan Valley Film liaison Laura Jennifer Russell, who spoke on behalf of B.C.-based Zeta Productions, said the film crew also spent a day shooting in Victoria and Metchosin for the series.

She said Zeta Productions chose to film in downtown Duncan because they liked the look of the streets and storefronts in the area and decided it would be a good fit for the series.

“They also felt it was easier to film in downtown Duncan as there is a lot less traffic here,” Russell said.

The show is being made by Air Bud Productions, the company behind the popular Netflix show Pup Academy and the Air Bud Movies.
