Parksville ‘Roper Romp’ event raises $4,600 for Haven Society

First event of its kind in PQB region

The region’s first ever ‘Roper Romp’ saw 150 people dress up as the iconic Mrs. Roper character from the 1970s TV show ‘Three’s Company’ on Oct. 14.

The event held at the Rod & Gun in Parksville raised $4,600 for the Haven Society through ticket sales and a raffle, according to Miranda Scott, who organized the event with Sarah Olsen.

“It was amazing. We had such an incredible time,” said Scott, who other characters from the popular sitcom were represented. “There was some Mr. Furleys, there was a Mr. Roper, there was a Janet and a Chrissy, and there was Larry, and I think there was even a Lana.”

The event included disco dancing, food and drink, a fashion show, prizes and music by DJ All Good. The director of Haven Society in Nanaimo, Jennifer Jackson, spoke at the event.

The organizers chose the Haven Society because of its work supporting people who choose to move away from violent relationships or violent household situations.

The organizers thanked Jeremi Burrows from the Rod & Gun for his support and sponsorship, as well as sponsors The 559 Clothing, Rusted Rake Brewery, Pacific Moon Rising Bar and Grill, Ian Warrens, realtor from Royal LePage Parksville Qualicum, Olsen of Hub International Brokers – Parksville and Scott and Glenn Karakochuk from Royal LePage in Parksville.

The Roper Romp phenomenon started in the U.S. several years ago and has become increasingly popular, spreading to B.C.

Scott said to stay tuned because the plan is to make the Parksville Roper Romp an annual event.
