Our North Island firefighters have made the long trek back home after helping fight the wildfires in Kelowna.
Port Hardy Fire Rescue sent a crew of four members, Port McNeill Fire Rescue sent three, and the Port Alice Volunteer Fire Department sent one member.
PHFR noted on its social media page their crew was “extremely happy and proud that they could help to make a difference in Lake Country and get the home owners back into their houses. The days were long, the work was hard and exhausting, but it was worth every bit of the effort.”
PHFR thanked the District of Port Hardy and “the whole North Island for all their support of our local fire departments to help the people of Kelowna in their time of dire need. We especially want to thank Fire Chief Brent Borg, Lieutenant Kurtis Holm, and firefighters Jayden Walsh and Khoré Elliot for dropping everything in a moments notice to answer the call. The sacrifice they and their families made does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.”
